At Little But Once we believe strongly in the importance of play and the incredible aptitude of babies and children. This is a place for big people who have small ones. Parents, grandparents, uncles, aunties, guardians, teachers, educators and carers. Welcome all!
My name is Holly and I am a Sydney based Early Childhood Teacher on VERY extended “maternity leave”. I don’t generally get around in lilac dresses (neither do my kids) but how often do mums get pictures of themselves?!
Here’s my story, I’ll keep it as brief as I can.
I have an undergraduate arts degree in psychology and social science (with a focus on developmental psych). On completing these studies I followed two of my passions (early childhood and snow) by working as a ski instructor at Thredbo, only teaching 3 year olds. The incredible talent of these little ones and their ability to pick up the ability to ski faster than many adults was astonishing.
Once the snow melted I returned to Sydney and worked as an Early Childhood Educator for several years before simultaneously undertaking my Masters of Teaching (Birth-5). During this time I had the privilege of working with many amazing community organisations, including being sponsored by the university in the area of early intervention. As a qualified Early Childhood Teacher I took up a position working with the youngest babies at our centre.
After welcoming our oldest Little But Oncer I took up several community service positions, on top of my full time stay at home mumma role. I work as a volunteer with a local refugee support program and have been the co-ordinator of my local Playgroup since 2014. Then in 2016 after the birth of my twins I started this blog as a hobby, to share my knowledge and experiences with other families and as a new pursuit of my passion for the early years.
I want my blog to be a USEFUL resource for parents. I love sharing easy play ideas that are underpinned by excellent educational constructs. I also want to share my experiences as a parent including tips, hacks and strategies for running a life and a home with little ones. I especially want to shout from the rooftops about the benefits of play…but I’ll just do it from here instead.
I would love for you to follow Little But Once on Facebook, Pinterest or Instagram where we will be sharing our latest posts and ideas. My little corner of the internet has become a very special place for me that I am very proud of. I hope that it is useful to you and your little ones!
