Hide and Seek Cafe | Leichhardt

Put chewing your food back on the menu at Hide & Seek Cafe, with their delightful fenced, undercover play area with table service.

Hide and Seek Cafe isn’t just family-friendly, it’s family centred. Which makes sense when you discover the owners started the business after having a daughter of their own. As cafe visiting parents, they have poured their personal experience and ideas into the business. Hide and Seek Cafe successfully combines fresh healthy food with child devoted play areas, as well as classes, to stand out as a truly family centred cafe.

Play Areas

Plenty of thought has gone into the play areas at Hide and Seek Cafe. The undercover outdoor section has a row of tables and chairs inside a fenced play zone. Yes, you can eat your avocado on toast with full view of your children knowing they are safely contained by a child gate. And a white picket fence to boot. Although beautiful for a sunny day there have been reports the roofing copes less well with rain.

A large mat with toys for crawlers is located close to the tables while a sandpit and cubby house sit on the opposite side. The toys available are very popular and seem to keep the children entertained for surprisingly long periods. Read that last sentence as – your beverage may actually remain hot! Inside the period cafe building is a small indoor play area.

Food and Drink

I can safely place my brunches here on my favourites list. The food is fresh, generous and very tasty. A particular perk of this cafe is they really do think of the kids, you can order from the mini menu for as little as TWO DOLLARS (for Vegemite on toast) up to $7 for a bento box packed with healthy treats. They offer a generous selection of drinks including speciality teas… as well as babycinos, of course. You can check out the rest of the menu here.

Facilities

Inviting front rooms are available for use by mothers groups or private functions and a baby change area is available in the toilets. Prams are welcome with easy access to all undercover outdoor areas while indoor spaces are less suited to prams and involve a step or two. The cafe runs various classes, activities and special events which are updated on a regular basis. You can find current information on their website.

Verdict

Especially enjoyable on weekdays, Hide and Seek Cafe really considers families at the heart of their business. This shines through in their friendly staff and the thoughtful details incorporated, from the menu to the facilities.
